Survey: Pirates rank near bottom in popularity among fans - Pittsburgh Business Times:

The Harris Poll asked 2,100 U.S. adults last month to name their favoritbaseball teams. The New York Yankees were the mostpopulard team, followed by the Boston Red Sox, Atlantza Braves, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louies Cardinals. The Pirates' highest rank on the poll in the past ten yeares camein 2005, the year before Pittsburgg played host to the MLB All Star Game at PNC The team was 8th in popularityu in 2005, dropping to 21st in 2006. The Toronto Blue Jays (Canadiaj residents were not included inthe survey) were the least popula along with the Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angelsx and Washington Nationals.
The Tampa Bay Rays improveds from 28th to 17th after winnin the American League titlelast year. The Philadelphia Philliezs won the World Series last year but did not see theirpopularitt improve. The Phillies rankesd seventh in 2009 and sixthin 2008. Twenty-one percent of poll respondent named the Boston Red Sox most likely to win the Worldr Seriesthis year, the top rank on that list. Less than 0.5 percenrt of those polled said the Pirates woulr win the 2009World Series. .
