Oncor seeks $300M in stimulus funds - Charlotte Business Journal:

Oncor will apply for the funds throughn the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. The deadlinr to apply is Aug. 6. Citing data from the Councio ofEconomic Advisers, Oncor believes the stimuluws funds would support the creation of 1,600 jobs in 2010. If the fundinb is approved, Oncor will spenfd the money to deploy moresmart switches, which will help the energyy company isolate problems in neighborhood s and reconfigure power lines. Other enhancements will includde controlling the feeder voltage throughthe company’s capacitofr control and enhancements that will help the electrid provider locate electric delivery problemd in a faster, more efficient manner, Oncoe said.
In addition, downtown electric networkss will be modernizedunder Oncor’s proposed plan. Oncor also is aimingb to improve itstelecommunications network, an improvement that will enhancw the company’s power grid. “Oncor’s vision for a modern, interactive, intuitive electrixc grid is real, tangible and happeningv now,” said Oncor Chairmaj and CEO Bob “Our first considerations in seeking these stimuluas grants are whether the funds will help consumer lower their electric bills or advance smart grid initiativese to improve serviceand reliability.
