In a letter to the the new Democratic congressman from Fairfax County said the Districtr Department of Transportation failed to give Virginia drivers adequatr notice of construction on two of the five bridges over thePotomacd River. Major construction on both began this but work on the Chain Bridge started two days ahead of the publiclyannounceds schedule. The work shut down one lane of trafficv that will remain closed foreight months.
In his Connolly called the earlystart “unacceptable and unfair to thosw trying to reach employment, recreation and retail centers on both sides of the Connolly said Fenty and the DDOT showedr a lack of respect for Northern Virginiwa commuters, adding that the District has a “special responsibility to the federall work force, residents from across the and visitors from across the nation to adequatel communicate and mitigate even minorf disruptions in access to the city.” Construction on the 14th Street Bridge will last two years and intensivwe work on the Chain Bridgd will take place between 10 p.m. Fridayxs and 6 a.m. Mondays, when DDOT will close the entire bridge.
